5 Pregnancy Truths

Pregnancy is the gift of life. You're growing and nurturing a little human inside of you (a concept that still amazes me!). A human that is half of you and half of the person that you love. It is a miracle. It is exciting to create a life, to carry a life for a whole 9-months.

..... And then there's the not so fun part of pregnancy where your hormones plays havoc with your body and your cravings goes off the roof. Everyday Pregnancy can be strange as things start to happen to your body that is beyond your control - strange things, things that are to *tmi* for this post.

Morning sickness is not just in the morning. It happens throughout the day, most likely in your first trimester and it will last as long as your body wants it to. It's no fun and food becomes second best. It's a bit like having a really bad episode of food poisoning, except it happens every time you eat, whether it's breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks! For me, it lasted from when I was 8-weeks pregnant up until 13-weeks and completely vanished in my second trimester. I don't know what's worse, being physically sick or feeling sick and not being able to throw up.

Treat stretch marks before it appears. Sorry ladies, but this isn't the complete truth. Honestly, if you're going to get stretch marks, then you're going to get stretch marks. How much or many stretch marks is all down to the individual. No amount of Bio Oil or Palmers Cocoa Butter will save you from the stretch mark gremlins. I naively thought I'd be the lucky one to get away with not having any, but I was wrong.. so wrong! At around 25 weeks I noticed a teeny stretch mark. I'm not going to lie, I was devastated! I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant and I am a owner of two handfuls of stretch mark sitting opposite of each other on my lower stomach. But it's ok, I'm growing a human inside of me and that alone makes these marks worth it.

Paranoia kicks in from day one. Whether it's from a slight burn when you pee, thinking you might have UTI to the dreaded reduce movements or slight bleeding. Everything and anything will run through your worrying mind and you pray every single second, minute, day for the next 9-months that your little bundle of joy is tucked in their, healthy and growing perfectly. You're not going crazy if you're worried, it's a parent's instinct to protect your offspring no matter what. But the most important thing is that you should enjoy every moment of pregnancy because it goes by so fast. Never ignore any signs, only you know your body well. Always be persistent when telling a professional of your concerns.

The toilet will be your best friend for the next 9-months. In the first trimester, actually throughout all 3 trimester the change in your hormones will make you have to pee constantly, and I mean constantly. Every other sentence will be "I need a pee!" Everywhere you go, whether to a shopping center, restaurant or a walk in the park, you'll have to pin point where the nearest toilet is just incase your baby decides to kick or press against your down below. For me, currently I'm my third and final trimester, toilet breaks has gotten more frequent.

You're eating for two. Wrong! During pregnancy, you require about an extra 200 calories per day on top of the 2,000 allowance per day just for maintenance of weight. The truth is, you're only really eating for one although I still use that excuse to have an extra portion of roasties on Sundays! The most important is that you're eating the right kind of foods (having treats is ok, but all in moderation) and drinking lots of fluids throughout.

  3. This is such a great and honest post!

I wish morning sickness was just in the morning! I was lucky in that I wasn't actually sick but I was nauseous every few hours and needed to eat to get rid of it! I haven't been too bothered with stretch marks, I just didn't have the energy to use creams and such on my bump all the time and I knew if I was going to get them, I would get them and there's nothing that can fade them until after I give birth, so I've just let them do their thing and I'll take care of them after!

Peeing all the time is something I hate especially when it wakes you up in the night or when you're at work and it's busy and you're trying to run away from the customers to pee but you can't get a chance to!

The eating for two thing annoys me in that everyone tells you to eat more because you can eat for two and then they act like I'm a know it all when I say you only need an extra 200 only in the last trimester! I have the odd day I will eat loads more than normal but I don't do it all the time! I've known people to "eat for two" and they ended up gaining more than 5 stone during their pregnancy which is something I definitely wanted to avoid doing, keeping it as low as I possibly can while eating enough to sustain my own energy levels.
