It just dawn on me that this time last year I was back from the most amazing 2-weeks adventure filled holiday in Thailand. R and I packed our suitcases and headed to Bangkok and Chiang Mai last July/August to experience life in the East. We wanted to be cultured shocked, we wanted to see how the other side of the world lived and we wanted to experience Asia the real, uninfluenced way. And what better way than to start in the Bangkok, Thailand's bustling capital. 

The land of mesmerising temples/shrines, friendly people, street food and taboo nightlight. We split the holiday in half and spent 1 week in Bangkok and 1 week in Chiang Mai. Here is a little snippet of the first leg of our trip (Part 1) ..

Temples & Shrines

The temples and shrines was, for me, the highlight of the trip. I was in constant awe at the shire size of each one I was fortunate to visit. The Wat Arun (Temple of The Dawn) and Wat Pho was mind blowing to say the least. Wat Pho is one of the biggest temples in Thailand, home to the largest Buddha. The Wat Arun, also known as Temple of The Dawn, is easily the most stunning temples in Bangkok. Seeing Thai Monks in their traditional attire, go about their everyday life was was incredible.

Bangkok Food Scene

Everyone talks about the food in Thailand, how real and authentic it is and I couldn't agree more. The Thai's really know how to spoil us with flavour and spice! Not once did I have a bad meal, even their street food was delicious. R and I did the equivalent of a pub crawl, except we ate our way through most of Bangkok and it was brilliant. We stopped over at so many street food vendors as well as visiting restaurants listed in my trusty Lonely Planet Guide Book. Somtam Nua located in Sam Square,  specialises in hot and spicy papaya salad and other Issan region dishes - a restaurant that does not hesitate on heat!

Local Markets

Or Tor Kor market is famous for its high quality produce, catering mainly to the ‘wealthy/upperclass’. We explored the entire market, sampling exotic fruits to familiar meats on skewers. There was also a food court that sold so many varieties of Thai dishes. It’s a small market that can be easily explored in a few hours. I loved watching the locals and market traders going about their day.  

Looking back all the photos from last year has reignited the desire to head back to Asia again. There is something about Thailand that captures your heart and leaves you wanting more. It is a city that knows how to impress and impressed I am! I’m not surprised that thousands people are choosing Bangkok as their holiday destination. I love and miss Asia so, so much.
